In January 2003 I started with the first sampler with Graubünden patterns. I wanted to combine cross-stitch motifs with all kinds of hemstitches.
For the cross-stitch part, I took out the notebooks with old and new cross-stitch patterns*) by Elly Koch , which I had been looking for a use for a long time. For many years in Switzerland, especially in Graubünden, Elly Koch has collected rural patterns that have been handed down for generations - carnation and acorn patterns, delicate birds, tendrils of flowers, etc.
This cloth was intended as a real embroidery sampler - to learn the different embroidery techniques and stitches. But the finished shawl pleased a few embroidery enthusiasts, who encouraged me to draw the template for it.
Elly Koch kindly gave me her consent to use the motifs she had collected.
