The Chart for this samplers has been
just completed.
I was inspired by a photo I found in the catalogue SAMPLERS
at the Victoria & Albert Museum. It shows a 19 th century Moroccan
sampler in magnificent colours and different stiches: double running
and satin stich.
For my chart I reconstructed a couple of the main motifs
of this sampler and translated the stiches into cross stich.
I think a reconstruction of the blaze of colour used in the original
sampler would fail, because these colours have now faded due by
age and UV rays and would be extremely difficult to copy and thus
appear authentic.
So I decided to choose a monochrome natural colour to underline
the extraordinary and remarkable charm in its structure, density
and grafical succinctness.
The result is a sampler in 'Moroccan Style'.
