The Chart:
About Hannah Hicks we know that she is born October 22, 1774 in
Essex, was pupil at Ackworth from 1789 to 1791.
Hannah's sampler is very particular because she used polychrome
silk threads. She has created a sampler with two frames of half-medallions
and half-vases. We find an unending number of initials.

The probably earliest medallion sampler was stitched by Mary Wigham
in 1790.
Her sampler is published in the wonderful ENGAGEMENT book. The two
girls must have been classmates, we find their initials in the both
samplers.
The sampler is in private property. It is rectangular and its size
is 37 cm x 32 cm. Because the original ground is unevenly woven,
the motifs seem to be drawn-out. Worked on evenly woven fabric the
replication becomes nearly square.
